Your body is a creature of habit and it loves routine. It likes knowing that things will happen in an orderly fashion. I think this is one of the reasons we react so badly to stress...our bodies don't like to cope with it. Chaos in any form, causes a very strong response..our body wants to protect itself.
People who sit down regularly for meals are more likely to be in control of what they eat and how much. Therefore, they have more control over their weight. When you body is being fed at regular intervals, it is much more likely to give up any excess when you exercise, burning stores rather than storing. Your body knows that it will be fed again so there is no risk of starvation. But when your eating habits are chaotic, your body becomes a little wary....why are nutrients coming in so erratically? Am I under attack? The response is to slow down metabolism to prevent the loss of calories you need to survive. The more erratic your eating habits are, the less likely you will achieve and maintain a normal weight.
Of course, eating healthy is not just about losing weight.....it's about our state of health. And believe me, I come in contact with a lot of unhealthy people on a daily basis. But, the beauty of it is, you have control over your health! As I have said in the past, "diets" can prevent disease, cause disease or provide the energy to heal illness and disease. Yes, what we eat WILL either CAUSE disease or PREVENT it from happening in the first place.
To prevent disease from starting, or to REVERSE it, get rid of the foods that cause it--processed foods and animal products. Foods that come in packages with ingredient lists more than 5 ingredients long, don't eat. If you don't know what an ingredient is, it probably is not REAL food....you don't know what it is and your body doesn't know what to do with it...it's a foreign substance as far as our body is concerned. Don't eat it!! Animal products---you know what foods are included here---beef, pork, chicken, turkey, fish...anything with a face and a mother---as well as dairy products--they come from animals as well. These foods are LOADED with saturated fat and cholesterol, not to mention all the antibiotics, hormones, and everything else that's pumped into these poor creatures--you are eating too! Whatever the animal gets, you do too.
Dairy is a double whammy---not only do you get all the saturated fat, hormones, and cholesterol, but the main protein in dairy is called casein---it is a well known fact that casein FEEDS CANCER CELLS. Don't feed the ENEMY...give your healthy cells what they require to produce more healthy cells and fight off the enemy.
So start your day with a healthy breakfast...get your metabolism moving. Steel cut oats are a great way to start the day--cook them, add some fruit and raw honey if you need something a little bit "sweet" and you have a bowl of really good nutrition. That oatmeal is full of fiber which will help bring down your cholesterol, and the fruit has all kinds of phytochemicals in it to give your body important vitamins and minerals.
If you get hungry before lunch, grab a piece of fruit...nothing is easier to eat than fruit. For lunch, have a big salad with some kind of beans--chickpeas, black beans, white beans, red beans....any kind--again, they are full of fiber and beans give you superior protein. Have a bowl of soup with it if you wish.
For dinner it could be a vegetarian chili, some sort of a stew, a stir-fry, whatever---it is not that hard to just throw things together. If you need a recipe to follow, there are so many sites available...Vegkitchen.com, Straightupfood.com, Ohsheglows.com....there are so many to choose from with quick and easy recipes.
This really isn't hard to do, it's just different from what we are "used to". But, whenever you do something consistently, over time it becomes the "new norm" and you don't even have to think about it. Instead of eating parts of an animal, you are eating real food that Nature has intended us to eat--food that comes from the plant kingdom.....no saturated fats, no cholesterol, no hormones...instead we will be eating vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and phytochemicals...all the things our body needs PREVENT disease from starting.
So, it doesn't matter what your reasons are for wanting to "change your diet"....whether it's to lose weight or to get control of your health, a Whole Food Plant Based diet is the answer to it all---it doesn't matter what the issue is--this way of eating can literally CHANGE YOUR LIFE!!
