WHAT WOULD YOU SAY?

Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine surveyed approximately 1,100 Americans regarding nutritional information.  They asked 5 questions pertaining to cholesterol, calories, fat, calcium and fiber.  Here are the results:

CHOLESTEROL:  Only 7% of people were aware an egg has more cholesterol than a Big Mac.  (Egg=212 mg/Big Mac=79 mg)  Remember, our bodies produce all the cholesterol necessary for cell function.  Our bodies do not require any added cholesterol from foods.

CALORIES:  Only 7% of the people surveyed in households with children ages 13-17 knew that skim milk and Coca-Cola have about the same number of calories.  Of course, Coca-Cola comes packaged with sugar and skim milk comes packaged with cholesterol.

FAT:  Only 18% of people knew that 70% of calories in cheese comes from fat.  (Remember the billboards that were only advertised for a very short period of time, showing a person's thigh covered in cellulite with the caption, "Got cheese?").  I am assuming someone working very closely with the Dairy Council had something to do with the ads disappearing......

CALCIUM:  Only 22% of people were aware that beans and broccoli are high in calcium.  Greens contain calcium that is 50-60% absorbable by your body.  The calcium in milk is only 32% absorbable.

FIBER:  Only 36% of people realized that fish and beef have the same amount of fiber.  There is no fiber in animal products.

While following a Whole-Food Plant-Based diet, we get all the nutrition our bodies need as well as fiber which is non-existent in animal products.  Vegetables, fruits, whole grains, bean, legumes, nuts and seeds come packaged with disease fighting antioxidants, fiber, vitamins, minerals, phytochemicals, protein and calcium.  When we feed our bodies the nutrition it requires without all the extra fat, cholesterol, artificial additives and preservatives, our bodies have the ability to prevent diseases, stop the progression of disease, and most of the time, reverse some of the damage that's been done.....and it's done very simply.....with the food we have on the end of our forks.......

For more information, come to one of my seminars...I would love to see you there!

WHAT IS A WHOLE-FOOD PLANT-BASED DIET?

What is a whole-food plant-based diet?  When I begin to explain the answer to this question, most people respond with, "Oh, you mean a Vegan diet?"  Well, no, not necessarily.  A Vegan diet may mean someone that does not eat meat or dairy, but does eat chips, processed foods out of a box, drinks sodas, etc.  You may be eliminating meat and dairy, but eating a lot of processed foods, fast foods, and drinking soda is not a healthy diet.

A whole-food plant based diet is eating a large variety of vegetables, fruits, beans, legumes, nuts and seeds.  This diet is eating food that comes directly from nature, nothing added to it and or nothing taken out of it.  Fresh vegetables and fruit give us so many vitamins and nutrients, phytochemicals and antioxidants, that our body becomes armed with ammunition to fight off heart disease, cancer, diabetes, respiratory problems, inflammation, kidney disease, depression, etc., etc., etc.

The next question is, "where do you get your protein?"  There is a lot of protein in beans and lentils, but what most people do not know is there is protein in vegetables, especially green leafy vegetables.  When eating a variety of vegetables as well as beans, it would be impossible not to get enough protein.   By getting our protein from vegetables and beans, we get the added bonus of fiber, (which is so deficient in the typcial American diet),  antioxidants and phytochemicals....compared to getting our protein from animal products that come packaged with saturated fat, cholesterol and NO fiber, antioxidants or phytochemicals!!

So, my question to you is, "Where do you get your protein from???"   Let me show you the way........
