Now, let's talk about plant foods. Plant foods are high in complex carbohydrates and FIBER, low in fat and dietary acids, and have NO CHOLESTEROL!! They also have sufficient, but not EXCESS amounts of protein. In other words, they provide you with HIGH QUALITY NUTRITION which is good for you, and none of what makes you sick.
Your body can handle only so much protein, fat, cholesterol and dietary acids. When you take in more than your body can use, metabolize, neutralize or eliminate, those excess amounts act as poison. On a typical standard American diet, (SAD), these toxic products build up in your system on a daily basis wrecking havoc inside of us. Excess dietary fat and cholesterol clog arteries and increase the risk of cancer along with all kinds of other medical issues.
PROTEIN: When we keep eating protein after we've meet our daily requirement, our body tries to eliminate the excess. The primary route is through the liver and kidneys. When we have an excess, obviously we are working our kidneys and liver harder than necessary. We start losing our kidney functions because of this, but there are no symptoms...people do not realize the damage they are causing. All this extra protein leads to organ failure. I can't tell you the amount of people I see EVERYDAY with compromised kidney functions as well as renal failure. Also, protein overload harms our bones..each time we take in excess protein we INCREASE the amount of CALCIUM excreted in our urine...get ready for bone thinning osteoporosis and kidney stones!
FAT: A report that came out in 2008 stated we have an epidemic of obesity in the United States---68% of adults were overweight, with a body mass index (BMI) between 25-30 compared to normal levels of 18.5-24.5. More than one in three were obese with a BMI over 30.9, (these statistics are probably much higher today). Our body stores fat quite effortlessly as body fat. We also store excess in our liver, heart and muscles. The accumulation of fat in these organs is a condition referred to as insulin resistance which results in heart disease, stroke and type 2 diabetes. Carrying around excess weight also puts a stress on our joints, leading to osteoarthritis in the hips and knees. Excess dietary fat and body weight stimulates the development of cancers.
CHOLESTEROL: Cholesterol is found exclusively in animal products and oils....like all animals, we produce all the cholesterol we need for our own uses. Our bodies ARE NOT EFFICIENT at eliminating the excess...we excrete only a little more than the amount we make ourselves. When we add to the amount of cholesterol by eating animal products, the excess cholesterol accumulates in our skin and tendons as well as the arteries causing us to have vascular diseases of the heart and brain leading to heart attack and strokes. Cholesterol also stimulates cancer development.
DIETARY ACID: Animal foods are loaded with dietary acids. After we eat them, our bones release materials to neutralize these acids trying to maintain our pH levels. Over time, this process weakens our bones again, leading to osteoporosis. Acids from animal foods also raise body levels of the steroid cortisol, which again triggers bone loss. So, the chronic over-consumption of dietary acids from meat, poultry, fish and cheese literally causes you to pee your bones into the toilet!
