Even though we have all kinds of medical intervention for the "treatment of heart disease, (notice I did not say cure), drugs, stents and bypasses, offer no more than a band-aid effect. If a sink is overflowing with water, mopping up the mess is not solving the problem....that's what medical treatment does for heart disease. We need to get to the root of the problem and STOP IT.
The solution is so simple...heart disease no longer has to exist. The answer is eating a Whole-Food Plant-Based Diet.
When I start explaining a WFPB diet, people are shocked that there are no animal products "allowed". They think eating this way is just too "drastic a change". Really?? What I believe to be "drastic" is a cardiac surgeon sawing my chest cavity open to reach inside with his hands and start "working" on my heart....NO THANK YOU! Eating vegetables, fruits, beans, and whole-grains suddenly doesn't seem "too drastic".
It's nothing short of amazing what a WFPB diet can do...I truly mean that. It not only stops the #1 Killer Disease in America, but it also prevents, stops and most of the time reverses all the other Killer Diseases we have in this country, i.e., cancers, strokes, diabetes, Alzheimer's, kidney failure, etc. If everyone just stopped the standard American diet, (SAD), and ate a WFPB diet, there would be SO MUCH LESS suffering going on...not only to the person fighting a disease, but what about their family's suffering? So many people don't realize how they take care of themselves effects not only themselves, but their entire family.
When people's arteries look like the above picture to the right with the narrowing, taking a pill and continuing to eat animal products and oils, (not to mention processed foods), does not take care of the problem, the sink is still overflowing. Taking a pill is not going to clean out that artery. However, when animal products, oils and processed foods are eliminated, guess what.....so is the plaque. Anyone with heart disease, (high blood pressure, high cholesterol, coronary artery disease), CAN REVERSE THE DAMAGE ALREADY DONE....cut off the cause.
There is so much research done to prove this....patients were put to the test....they had angiograms done showing diseased coronary arteries.....they were started on a STRICT WFPB diet, (by strict I mean eat as much as you want, but no animal products or oils), and 3 months later, angiograms were performed again showing much LESS narrowing of their arteries. That's in a 3 month time frame....of course, the more time that went by, the more the plaque disappeared. This is a PREVENTABLE DISEASE...but, it's still the #1 Killer in America today.
For anyone interested, a really good book and very EASY to READ is, Prevent and Reverse Heart Disease, by Caldwell B. Esselstyn, Jr., MD. Dr. Esselstyn was a surgeon at the Cleveland Clinic, the #1 heart center in the WORLD. The information in this book is life changing to say the least.
I want to share a recipe with you for Banana Muffins....see, eating this way is not only about lettuce!!!
HEALTHY BANANA MUFFINS
4 very ripe bananas
2 c oats, ground into flour
1/2 c unsweetened apple juice
1/2 c unsweetened applesauce
2 T ground flax seeds
1 t ground cinnamon
1/2 T vanilla extract
1/2 T apple cider vinegar
1/2 T baking powder
1/2 t baking soda
- Preheat oven to 350. Line a muffin pan with 12 cupcake liners.
- Grind oats into a flour, place in a large bowl and add all the other dry ingredients.
- Puree bananas in a food processor until smooth. Add the apple juice, applesauce, vanilla and apple cider vinegar and process again until combined.
- Pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients and mix until just combined, do not over mix.
- Pour into muffin liners filling about 2/3 full.
- Bake for about 20 minutes, until tops are golden brown and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
These are really good....and look at the ingredients.....no animal products and no oil!
