But, I am here to tell you, the MOST POWERFUL changes are not in Hi-Tech medicine....the most POWERFUL CHANGES are found in FOOD. Your body is MUCH MORE POWERFUL than anything available in medicine today...as a matter of fact, NOTHING holds a candle to it.
Remember, drugs, stents and bypass surgeries DO NOT CURE ANYTHING...they treat the symptoms. Your goal should be to CURE the DISEASE. By eating a Whole Food Plant Based diet, you will not only be cleaning out your arteries and preventing heart disease, but you will prevent other diseases from starting such as cancer....the other disease none of us want to be diagnosed with.
When our cholesterol is high, we have no symptoms in the early stages....we don't know it's high unless we have a blood test done to check it. Plaque builds up in our arteries causing narrowing, slowing down blood flow, which over time can be disastrous. The symptoms don't surface until we suddenly have chest pain, pain going down our left arm, jaw pain or tightness in the chest. Just ask anyone you know that had bypass surgery done, or someone that went through stents being placed in their coronary arteries....it's a very scary situation to be in, to say the least!
None of us have to go through ANY of this. Heart disease DOESN'T HAVE TO EXIST! This is the kind of information that I think should be plastered on billboards everywhere and being reported on the news continually. By eating a WFPB diet, we not only get so many vitamins, minerals and antioxidants that keep our cells healthy, but we get a boat load of FIBER, something that is EXTREMELY LACKING in the Standard American Diet, (SAD).
Fiber absorbs fat during digestion and reduces swelling in arteries. It keeps everything moving smoothly and keeps us feeling full. Fiber also brings down our LDL, the bad cholesterol. Vegetables, fruits, and whole grains all come packaged with fiber...but the food group that wins the prize for the highest fiber content is BEANS!
There is such a variety of beans to choose from--chickpeas, black beans, cannelli, kidney, small red beans, navy beans, Great Northern beans, white beans, pinto beans, lentils, split peas, etc. And, beans are extremely versatile...they can be put in anything from soups and stews to garden salads,or, mix different bean varieties together with chopped vegetables and some balsamic vinaigrette dressing and you have a perfect hot weather meal. There are all kinds of recipes for hummus, dips and spreads all using beans as the base. They are so good for you....and let's not forget, not only are they loaded with fiber, but they are also full of protein....all the protein we need can be found in beans without any saturated fat or cholesterol.....ZERO!
If you have been diagnosed with high cholesterol, you can start TODAY to mop up the mess....it's never too late. Get rid of the foods that caused this problem, i.e., animal products, processed foods and an excess of sugar, (triglycerides are formed by an excess of calories from sugar and alcohol that our body converts in to fat that is carried in blood and stored in fat cells throughout the body)...and start eating all the foods that will give you your health back--vegetables, fruits, whole grains and beans! The sooner you start eating this way, the sooner you can LOWER your cholesterol levels without taking cholesterol medication that has HORRIBLE side effects.
