However, many times people are just too busy during the week to cook, so they end up at a fast food restaurant, or picking up fast food for their family to bring home.
Believe it or not, there are problems with both of these scenarios....let me explain. There are three different fats we get from food:
- Trans fat: These are the WORST. Trans fats are found in junk foods and animal products (meat and dairy). In junk foods, scientists found a way to make this "food" taste good by using all kinids of chemicals, one being hydrogenated or partially hydrogenated oils. In animal products, we get trans fats from cheese, milk, meat, sausage, deli meat, and oils, (olive oil, canola oil, etc).
- Saturated fats: This type of fat comes from meat and dairy.
- Cholesterol: Cholesterol comes from any animal product and eggs. Every animal makes their own cholesterol, including humans. If you are eating any kind of meat, (anything with a face or a mother), you are eating cholesterol....that means beef, chicken, pork, chicken, turkey and fish.
How much of these fats are "safe" in our diets? ZERO. Any level above zero will increase cholesterol levels. Trans fats and saturated fats will increase your bad cholesterol (LDL) so easily it isn't funny. So the problem with the first scenario is the person that is grabbing a pastry or something quick is most likely eating a huge number of calories, not to mention a boatload of trans fats. At lunch time, the deli meat is loaded with trans fats and cholesterol, the chicken on top of the salad has just as much cholesterol as beef, and has a lot of saturated fat, (I'm talking about skinless), and at dinner the meat has trans fats and cholesterol....not to mention what is put on the potato (usually butter, more saturated fat and cholesterol).
Once I explain all this to the patient, the next question they ask is, "Then what are you suppose to eat?" It really is very simple.....a Whole Food Plant Based diet--this is truly the answer to ANY and EVERY health issue a person has. This same "diet" will heal, cure, take care of, prevent and or stop whatever medical issue a person has...it doesn't matter what the condition is! That's the beauty of this...this is the OPTIMAL way of eating for SUPERIOR HEALTH!
Because I am talking about cholesterol, I will stay on this subject. So, when the patient's cholesterol is found to be high, the doctor will tell the patient to "watch their diet" and then prescribes them a cholesterol lowering medication...that's what doctors are trained to do....that's why pharmaceutical companies are a multi-billion dollar industry, and that's why we are sicker and fatter than ever! Not to mention, the side effects from that little pill starts a host of other problems to start and, that pill is not CURING anything, it's treating a symptom of a bad diet. Well, I am here to tell you this is NOT the answer.
You can absolutely drop your cholesterol like a rock by eating the RIGHT foods and eliminating the foods that CAUSE the problem in the first place. Start eliminating all the food that causes you to have high cholesterol--meat, dairy, processed foods, and OIL. Instead, load up on all kinds of vegetables, fruits, beans, and whole grains. Not only will these foods nourish your body with all kinds of vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and phytochemicals, they come with ZERO transfats, ZERO saturated fats and ZERO cholesterol! You can't have a high cholesterol level if YOU ARE EATING foods that contain ZERO amounts of the fats that cause it. It's not rocket science!!
