Tip for today: DRINK WATER. I was astounded to learn this: A group of Israeli researchers examined the resting energy expenditure (REE) of a group of obese children. Resting energy expenditure refers to the rate at which you burn calories when you are sleeping, watching TV or simply sitting there staring into space. The researches gave the kids a large glass of water then began measuring the REE every 10 minutes. The results amazed the researchers...Within 24 minutes, REE began increasing. By 57 minutes, REE increased by 25%, and this effect lasted 40 minutes.
So, just by drinking water, your body increased its burning of calories. How much easier can that be! According to Bob Harper, the trainer on The Biggest Loser, advises:
1. Drink a large glass of water before every meal--NO EXCUSES.
2. End the day by placing a large glass of water on your bedstand and drink it when you wake up, every morning.
3. Mix some fruit in a pitcher of water and put it in the refrigerator ready to go.
So, let's see how much water we can drink today. This is really a struggle for me as I'm just not a water drinker, but after learning how it helps burn more calories, I will choke it down!!
Ok, so now the meal plan for today. I was sharing this information from the 21-Day Kickstart book I have, but then realized there is a website with all the same information on it. So, go to 21 Day Vegan Kickstart,(you have to register by putting in your name and email, but all the information is absolutely free), click on the 21 Day Meal plan, and the information is right there with recipes at your fingertips.
How's exercising going? Remember, only a brisk 30 minute walk outside, (if only the temperature would cooperate), or on the treadmill is what we all should be doing. Anything more than this is a BONUS. I don't want to discourage anyone, but statistics show a 4 mile walk burns 350 calories--not as much as you might think, but, exercise strengthens your heart, keeps your muscles in shape, tones your body, helps to de-stress, helps depression, conditions your body, etc., etc., etc. Make it your goal to exercise each and everyday!!
Remember--80% diet, 20% exercise..together it is a winning combination. With that being said, what I see everyday in the medical practice I work in is, the difference between the people in their 70's and 80's that are healthy and vibrant, and the people in the same age group that can barely move around, are short of breath, everything in their body hurts, and are on a grocery list of medications, is EXERCISE. The people that exercise, again, that can mean just walking each day, are so much better off than those who do not...I see this everyday.
So, tomorrow I will check in with your water intake, how the meal plan went, and, last but not least, how much exercising were you able to do....
