CHANGE YOUR LIFESTYLE, REVERSE YOUR DISEASES

The debate on how to reduce health care costs that are out of control are constant.  Republicans say abolish the whole system all together as $769 billion was spent in 2011 on Medicare, Medicaid and the Children's Health Insurance Program...that was 2001...can you imagine what it has been up to  the present?  Democrats say raise taxes and let the deficit increase..there's not much common ground here.

Here's an alternative:  Why can't we ADDRESS the underlying causes of what is making us sick and what will make us HEALTHY?  When we address the "root" of the problem, we are most likely gong to SOLVE the problem. 

We can make much better health care available for more people at far lower costs when we TREAT THE CAUSES rather than the SYMPTOMS.  So what are the causes?

They are the lifestyle choices that we make each and every day.  What we eat, how we respond to stress, whether or not we smoke, how much we exercise and how much social support we have in our lives all make a difference.  

Currently, over 75% of the $2.8 TRILLION in health care costs are due to chronic diseases such as heart disease and type 2 diabetes.  These two diseases can be largely PREVENTED by making comprehensive lifestyle changes.  We don't need to wait for a new drug or some high-tech breakthrough...we simply need to put into practice WHAT WE ALREADY KNOW. Think about it, two of the BIGGEST KILLERS in the United States are COMPLETELY PREVENTABLE by making lifestyle changes...without drugs or surgery.  

In addition to preventing diseases, lifestyle changes can often reverse their progression.  This has been PROVEN by Dr. Dean Ornish who runs a program in California which medicare pays for, as well as many other insurance companies.  Dr. Ornish has REVERSED severe heart disease in thousands of patients, not to mention, the same program reversed type 2 diabetes and early stage prostate cancer.  Remember, prostate cancer and breast cancer are closely related...what causes one usually causes the other, and, vise versa...what prevents one prevents the other.  

Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield found that overall health care costs were reduced by 50% in the first year when people with heart disease or risk factors went though Dr. Ornish's lifestyle program in 24 hospitals and clinics.  In another study, Mutual of Omaha found that it saved $30,000 PER PATIENT in the first year for those who went through the lifestyle program.  

Did you know that recent studies have shown that aangioplasties and stents DO NOT prolong life or PREVENT heart attacks in stable patients, costing $60 BILLION per year?  

Type 2 diabetes and pre-diabetes will affect half of Americans in the next eight years at a projected cost of $3.3 TRILLION.  Lowering blood sugar with drugs does not FULLY prevent the human costs of diabetes, (including heart attacks, strokes, amputations, impotence, kidney failure and blindness), but lowering blood sugar with diet and lifestyle prevents all of these human costs. 

This information has all been proven with hundreds if not thousands of patients!! It's not a matter of MAYBE you can change your health and destiny, but these are PROVEN FACTS!!
