DANGEROUS DIETING: FROM THE PREVIOUS PAGE
We have been bombarded with a barrage of gimmicky diets that promise to help us lose weight. Almost all diets are ineffective. They don’t work because no matter how much weight you lose when you are on a diet, you put it right back on when you go off. Measuring portions, weighing food, counting calories, typically called “dieting”, almost never result in permanent weight loss and actually worsens the problem over time. This way of eating slows down you metabolic rate, so often more weight comes back than you lost. You wind up heavier than you were before you started dieting. I know this because it has happened to me for years. In my opinion, any “diet” will work as long as you stick to it to the letter. However, once you “finish” the diet, most people end up going back to their normal way of eating, and here comes the weight right back on. I myself have done this over and over again. Fortunately, after digging really deep into nutrition and reading and researching everything I could get my hands on regarding foods and how it impacts our health, I have finally found the simple truth. The information I base my theory on comes from physicians and research scientists that have been searching for the same answers for decades. The physicians are well-known cardiologists from prestigious universities that have searched for this information in order to save the lives of their patients. Once their patients were started on a whole-food plant-based diet, their results were astonishing!! The key to success is eating LARGE amounts of the right food which makes this plan work for the rest of your life. What makes people overweight is not necessarily that they eat so much more, but that they get a higher percentage of their calories from fat and refined carbohydrates, or what Dr. Joel Fuhrman calls, “low nutrient foods”. Regardless of your metabolism or genetics, you can achieve a normal weight once you start a high-nutrient diet. Since the majority of Americans are overweight, the problem is not primarily genetic. Don’t get me wrong, genes are an important ingredient, but, physical activity and food choices play a far more significant role. Dr. Fuhrman states that even those with a strong family history of obesity effectively lose weight with diet modifications. As long as you are eating fatty foods and refined carbohydrates, it is impossible to lose weight HEALTHFULLY. In fact, this vicious combination of sedentary lifestyle and eating the typical American diet, (high-fat, low-fiber) is the primary reason we have such an incredibly overweight population. Most Americans are not aware that the diet they eat leads to cancer, heart disease, hypertension, high cholesterol, etc. Allowing their children to eat fast-food meals may be just as risky as letting their children smoke cigarettes. Most people would not allow their children to smoke cigarettes, but they allow them to consume soda, fries cooked in trans-fat, burgers, doughnuts, cookies, cupcakes and candy on a daily basis. People are just not aware of the destruction this causes in their child’s health. Childhood obesity is now an epidemic. READ 2. Let Thy Food Be Thy Medicine |
